District 4: Carmen Chandler

Carmen's Interests:

Carmen Chandler is serving her first term as a Weakley County Commissioner in District 4. She is a longtime resident of Sharon, where she lives with her husband Scott Chandler. Together they have 2 children, Ashlyn, age 10 and Aiden, age 8.

Carmen attended Sharon School and Westview High School of which she became a graduate in 1998. Following this, she attended Freed-Hardeman University and the University of Tennessee at Martin from which she graduated in 2003 with highest honors. While at UTM, she studied the French language and secondary education.

Carmen is actively involved in her community and church. She attends church at the Gardner Church of Christ, where she teaches Bible to children of all ages.  Also, Carmen has been actively involved in youth sports having coached a variety of youth leagues in the community.

Carmen supports providing the best education to the youth of Weakley County and believes active parental involvement is key. She supports Parent Teacher Organizations, of which she served as an officer and understands that parental involvement in children’s education equals academic success. Furthermore, Carmen strongly believes in the openness and transparency of government. She hopes as a newly elected commissioner to facilitate an increase in the publics’ interaction with the commission.
